So, i spent a few years deciding which boat to build, and decided on this pretty design from steve redmond called the whisp. photo borrowed from tom hill's book, "ultralight boatbuilding". powered by create your own unique website with customizable templates.. Whisp is a 15-1/2 ft skiff designed by steve redmond for oar, sail or an electric motor. weight should come in around 70 lbs, so cartopping is possible. the hull is made from okoume marine plywood - 4mm for the sides and 6mm for the bottom. for my boat, i chose sassafras for the non-plywood parts, mostly, but also some cherry. construction started in the mid-1980s. i bought the plans and cut.
